Crafted from a beautiful oak hardwood, the Piedmont is a strong and rugged chair capable of lasting for generations. Built and designed to be handed down as an heirloom, the Piedmont features swelled joint construction that needs no glue. This Plantation-style rocker features dual rounded finials on the back posts, and 12 form fitting scooped slats.
Excellent craftsmanship makes this one of our favorite rocking chairs. The arched back, the properly sized rungs, and the arced runners all contribute to this chair having tremendous comfort and perfect pitch. Pitch is best described as the angle of the seat to the floor when the chair is empty. The design of this chair has remained unchanged since its creation in 1924. Ships partially assembled.

It's handcrafted using Swelled Joint Construction, a technique borrowed from Shaker design that uses NO GLUE. Larger posts are air-dried 6 to 9 months and smaller posts are kiln dried. This variance in moisture content makes the small posts swell and the large posts shrink, making a very tight fit. In fact, this chair will get tighter over time. Thanks to its Interlocking Joinery Construction, notched dowels make it nearly impossible to be pulled apart. Stainless steel nails and arm braces ensure no rust. Most importantly, the curved back and double scoop slatted seat enable this chair to fit the contours of your body, while the trademark design gives this rocker perfect pitch.
The rocker's seat has 12 scooped chair slats and 2 cross supports. The seat back has 5 vertical slats and two curved horizontal slats. Three horizontal spindles on the front and sides, two spindles on the back of the base give this chair strong support. The solid posts are topped with rounded finials on the back and attach to the armrests at the front of the chair. The armrests are curved in the front, bow out a bit to the outside for appropriate arm comfort and taper to the back of the chair. Hardware is added to give additional support to the armrests.
Manufacturer Care Instructions:
Yearly maintenance of your rocking chair will help keep its finish looking new. Whether outdoor or indoor, keep your rocking chair cleaned and polished with a high quality furniture polish to extend the life of the finish. Should your rocking chair get wet, please be sure to dry it as soon as possible. If used outdoors, the finish on a wood product will eventually begin to deteriorate. To restore its beauty, we recommend a light hand sanding and cleaning followed by application of a quality finish material as directed by your local paint store.
The finish applied to this chair will help protect if from the elements, however the Piedmont Rocker is designed for use on a covered porch. If the rocker is used in an unprotected area, constant exposure to the elements will accelerate the weathering process of the chair.
